Researching agroecology and expanding people’s relationships with plants with civic science communities.
Aubrey Streit Krug is a writer, teacher, and researcher who studies stories of relationships between humans and plants. She directs the Ecosphere Studies initiative at The Land Institute in Salina, Kansas. She organizes civic science communities that invite diverse groups of people to learn together, as they care for plants, participate in new perennial grain crop domestication, and explore agroecology research. Aubrey grew up in a small town in Kansas, where her parents farm wheat and raise cattle, and she loves rocky prairie hillsides. She holds a Ph.D. in English and Great Plains Studies from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and is a co-author of the collaborative textbook The Omaha Language and the Omaha Way.
