Fikty Aprilinayati started her career as a teacher at several schools in Jakarta, in order to foster awareness of the importance of nature and biodiversity conservation. She graduated with a master’s degree in biological conservation, armed with knowledge and field experience from exploring forests and natural landscapes as part of a biodiversity survey related to the agricultural and forestry sector. She began working for a civil society organization engaged in environmental conservation.

Fikty started her role at the organization as the coordinator of species and habitat management in southern Sumatra. She was in charge of assisting the National Park in providing guidelines and carrying out conservation activities such as patrols, biodiversity surveys, forest rehabilitation, and wildlife conflict mitigation as an effort to protect wildlife and their habitat from encroachment, hunting, and illegal logging.

She was then trusted as the Environmental Company Team Leader, where she assisted the private sector in carrying out best management practices in sustainable development in South Sumatra. Meanwhile, as a Data & Research Coordinator, Fikty is also responsible for managing research and data on activities related to conservation, livelihoods, sustainable production, governance, and policy. She works in collaboration with experts, universities, other CSOs, government, and the private sector related to sustainable landscape management.

Alongside these roles, Fikty is also a researcher, consultant, and a volunteer for conservation and natural resource management. Through the Society for Conservation Biology – Indonesia Chapter, Fikty and her colleagues provide activities to develop an interdisciplinary and professional approach in responding to the needs of biodiversity conservation for Indonesia’s younger generation. They work together with SEPAKAT in the hamlet of Bonto Panno, South Sulawesi, to advance sustainable natural agriculture. With KEE Tebo, they encourage local communities to participate in protecting elephant habitat as well as in alternative livelihoods through the Essential Ecosystem Area.
