Working for an NGO in the field of women’s and children’s protection encouraged Ayu to establish a social business that aims to provide employment and a safe space for women in remote villages. Gumi Bamboo started as a social project that she developed upon completing her Academic Fellowship at Arizona State University. At the end of 2017 the project transformed into a social enterprise that produces environmentally friendly household products by utilizing the potential of people living in underserved rural villages.

In 2019, Ayu collaborated with 50 craftswomen in 5 villages to produce environmentally friendly products and conduct skills and leadership training tailored to the conditions of each village. In the first assisted village, Ayu and her team provided better and safer alternative jobs, allowing residents who previously worked as stone miners to become bamboo crafters. By participating in several business incubator programs and having a previous professional background in broadcasting and community development, Ayu plays a major role in Business Development and Community Engagement at Gumi Bamboo.
