Radhika Sundaresan works in establishing environmental education programs in urban schools of Chennai. As program manager of Pitchandikulam Forest Consultants, she is working to use India’s first restored urban wetland at Adyar Ecological Park as an urban lab for students and communities to understand the ecosystem services and biodiversity that are essential for the city. Currently they work with 260 children to increase awareness on issues related to watershed and sewage management, waste disposal and water availability. She parallelly works with a citizen action group Neerottam to conduct river walks from the start to end of River Adyar for adult and student groups to create awareness about the issues the river faces. Radhika has also been involved in developing a curriculum for students in ecological engineering and “environment & ecosystem” courses which will be piloted for the MPTEL course in IIT Madras and to later be used in all engineering colleges. Radhika conducts work in restoration ecology, restoring canals and water bodies to combat natural disasters while working in project management with the Chennai River Restoration Trust. In addition to this work, she also works with the People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) through Neerottam and works with the Madras Dyslexia Association.
