Cultivating healthy and healing relationships between people and land through permaculture.

Sasha Shankar is a permaculture expert who brings her 10 years of experience in regenerative farming to her position as Co-Director of Dig Deep Farms. Dig Deep Farms was founded by the Alameda County Deputy Sheriffs’ Activities League in 2010 to address food insecurity and the public health and safety impacts it creates within communities. The urban farm grows delivers nutrient-dense produce to local community members, improves food infrastructure, and creates opportunities for increased access to green spaces.

Prior studying permaculture, horticulture, and agriculture, Sasha studied public and behavioral health. She is also the Co-Founder of Town and City Permaculture, an Oakland/San Francisco Bay Area based non-profit that aids disadvantaged communities and at-risk youth to develop leadership and career building skills through permaculture education and training. Sasha is passionate about and devoted to building resilient communities, cultivating healthy relationships between people and land, ensuring diversity in permaculture training and education, healing trauma, and practicing ancestral and holistic forms of cooking and herbal medicine.
