S.H.E. Collective was inspired in 2015 while Shenée’s husband was serving in Afghanistan. She began to grapple with her own peace, safety and security and how she would create the same for the upcoming birth of her daughter.

S.H.E. Collective a is a niche collective space to rethink and reframe how we regard and name peace, safety and security for girls and women (WPS). Connecting global United Nations resolutions 1325 and 2250 and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) to domestic, regional, state and local education, health and environment programs and policies. Connecting scholarship to activism, bridging academia, grassroots, corporation and foundation philosophies and practices across urban, rural and suburban spaces.

A place to create, imagine, design and facilitate programs; draft and influence policy; increase advocacy and awareness that localize international goals and policies to communities, programs and institutions.

Shenée L. Simon, is an independent researcher and non-profit leader. She brings high energy and strategic thinking for the inclusion of girls/women and girls/women of color across communities and borders with a deep commitment for their peace, safety and security where they live, learn, work, play and pray. She has founded and created programming centering gender equity and social systems in suburban and rural Virginia, Orlando, Miami and South Texas. Her personal belief for building peace, collaboration and transformation is “triad transcending”-engagement locally, nationally and globally. Bridging communities through activism, scholarship and counter-culture perspectives.

She left a footprint in San Antonio establishing the Younger Women’s Task Force in 2015, a movement for and by women in their 20s, 30s, and 40s committed to social justice. This work continues to energize and inspire parallel movements and organizations in the city and region.

In 2019 Shenée founded S.H.E. Collective, LLC. Prior to this, Shenée spent twelve years in for profit and non-profit spaces with organizations, Randstad North America, Walt Disney Co, the Madeira School, Chatham Hall and the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources.

Shenée is a 2021 Truman National Security Fellow, 2020 Inaugural Women of Color Advancing Peace and Security Pipeline Fellow, and 2020 Urban Rural Action Fellow. In 2020 she was appointed as the United State of Women Ambassador for Tennessee.

She holds a M.A. in Women and Genders Studies (Southern Connecticut State University), M.A. in Human Resources Management with a concentration in Nonprofit Management (Rollins College) and B.A. in Women’s Studies and Leadership Studies (University of Richmond). She is conversant in French.

Shenée currently calls Memphis, TN home with her husband and their two daughters and two sons, a proud homeschooling Army family! She enjoys reading historical fiction, visiting cultural hubs, finding local public graffiti art, murals and statues/monuments featuring girls and women of color. She is an avid collector of vintage accessories.
