Woro Supartinah lives in Riau Province, one of the areas in Indonesia with significant levels of environmental damage due to extractive and exploitative industrial activities. The dire condition in the province is exacerbated by huge socio-economic disparities in its communities. These are the main reasons motivating Woro to work toward strengthening these communities, saving forests, the environment, and achieving development that aligns with sustainability principles. Woro graduated from Riau University and the University of Reading, UK, with a focus on Environment and Development. She is also active in local NGOs that focus on forests and conservation. Her work involves assisting communities affected by industrial activities, as well as organizing campaigns for consumers and investors in the pulp and paper industry in local, national and international events.

She aims to support efforts that encourage social and environmental change in society. She is currently a member of the Steering Committee for the Global Paper Network and a Director at the Institute of Social and Economic Empowerment in Riau.
