Building individual and communal immunity by providing access to essential foods and medicines to all.
Xochitl Bernadette Moreno is an activist, media maker, and healer dedicated to the wellness of the planet and its people. She is the Co-Founder and Co-Director of EFAM: Essential Food and Medicine, an organization based in the Bay Area that aims to redirect resources and socialize health. EFAM diverts food surplus to build collective immunity and provide food and medicines for all, that mend the sacred hoop.
As the Co-director of EFAM, Xochitl oversees the daily functioning of the organization, builds relationships with the networks, coalitions, and affiliates EFAM works with, mobilizes members, and they lead on the ground day-to-day work. Most recently she has become the project manager for EFAM’s Cob on Wood initiative where she stewarded the construction of a earthen plaster community kitchen, clinic, free store and garen plaza bio remediation project all to serve one of the largest encampments of unhoused people on the west coast.
For the past ten years, Xochitl has been a co-producer and host for 94.1FM KPFA Pacifica Radio’s La Onda Bajita, the longest-running Chican@/Xican@ radio show in the country. She also co-founded The Outsider News, a Bay Area independent media company. In addition to her media work, she has spent the past 15 years providing bodywork and currently studies Herbal and Ayurvedic medicine and curanderismo.
