Engaging Citizen Participation for a Sustainable Environment.
Feby Hendola Kaluara is an architecture graduate with an interest in urban studies. In earning her master’s degree in urban design, Feby participated in several research projects relating to floods in Jakarta. Since 2014, she has taught architecture at the Pembangunan Jaya University and has conducted research and community service focused on sustainable development.
In 2016, Feby collaborated with LabTanya, an architecture community group that seeks answers to the nation’s landscape issues, and explores new solutions for the waste management system through a participatory design. Feby believes that sustainable design is based on empathy for the environment and attentiveness to users. This conviction cultivated Feby’s interest in participatory design and permaculture. In 2019, Feby joined the Sendalu Permaculture team and created the Teras Kamala program that gathers communities to discuss water issues. She continues to look at how citizen participation can drive change toward a more sustainable environment.
