Returning resources and land education through immersion programming and sustainable agriculture systems rooted in social awareness.

Phoebe Gooding is the Program and Organizing Director for Toxic Free NC, an organization dedicated to advancing environmental health and justice in North Carolina by advocating for safe alternatives to harmful pesticides and chemicals, where she leads the Just and Sustainable Agriculture program. Phoebe also a Farmer/Owner of Hawk’s Nest Healing Gardens, where she grows food to heal the land, bodies, and communities. She has a Master of Science in Environmental Studies from Antioch University New England.

Phoebe was born in the U.S. Virgin Islands, raised in the United States, and currently resides in Durham, North Carolina with her two children and husband. Growing up in an intergenerational household taught Phoebe the culture of self-sufficiency and respect for resources. She has been intentionally learning from Mother Earth for over 25 years.

Phoebe volunteers her time for board roles and is connected to a multitude of local and national organizations. She is deeply passionate about food and environmental justice. Phoebe is grateful to her community which has allowed her the opportunity to practice unapologetic, radical racial justice in real life. She continues to center and build on these teachings for our collective liberation now and for future generations.
